History of QR Codes: From Japan to Everywhere

QR codes were invented for factories in Japan and later became a phone camera feature.

Origin

Denso Wave introduced the QR code in 1994 so factories could store more than a barcode. “QR” means quick response. The symbol is standardized as ISO/IEC 18004.

Now

Phone cameras made them normal for menus, WiFi, and payments. A free static generator like qrfyy is enough whenever the destination does not need to change.

Why it replaced a lot of barcodes

A barcode is a line of numbers. A QR code is a grid, so it holds a URL or a WiFi password and can still be read if part of it is damaged. That is why it moved from factories to tables and posters.

What that means for a shop today

You do not need a special printer or a membership. A phone camera reads a static code from qrfyy the same way it reads any other QR code. The invention is old. The useful part is putting the right link in the square.
