QR Code vs Barcode illustration

QR Code vs Barcode

A barcode is a line of numbers. A QR code is a grid that can hold a link.

What each one holds

A retail barcode usually stores a product number for a scanner at a till. A QR code can store a URL, a WiFi string, or a contact card, and a phone camera can read it. qrfyy makes QR codes. It does not make retail barcodes.

Which to print

Use a barcode when a checkout system expects that product number. Use a QR code when a person should open a page, join WiFi, or save a contact. The packaging guide is for the QR case.

Do not swap them on a label

A till that expects a product barcode will not ring up a QR code. Print the barcode from the system that owns the product number, and print the QR code only for the page you want a person to open.
